Seniors garner National Merit Scholarship Honor
Seniors Nathalie Marquez and Nafiul Khandaker have been named commended students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and university scholarships administered by the NMSP.
A Letter of Commendation from the school and NMSC will be presented by Principal Dr. Cheryl Henry to both Marquez and Khandaker.
“Getting this far, especially in such a competitive program, is both an honor and a delightful surprise,” said Marquez, who is also part of the journalism staff.
Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers out of 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“I feel blessed because all of my hard work paid off in the end,” said Khandaker.
Marquez and Khandaker will be joining 34,000 students in the nation who have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
“We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success,” said a spokesperson for NMSC.
