Two Panthers advance to UIL Regionals

On Saturday March 30, Cy Springs students competed in academic UIL district meet at Cy Woods with Mya Banks and Emaly Aguilar advancing to regionals. Banks (third place) advanced in Journalism Editorial Writing and Aguilar (third place) advanced for Poetry Interpretation.

"These kids are an example of the exceptional students at Cypress Springs; with opportunities and support they will continue to excel," said debate teacher and Cy Springs UIL coordinator Bruce Sullivan.

Sponsors included Michael Damante(Copy Editing, Editorial Writing, and News Writing), Tina Howard(Current Issues and Social Issues), Bruce Sullivan(Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, and Lincoln Douglas), and Dr. Kristin Hughes(Calculator Applications, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Number Sense).

Other participating students include Ricardo Alcantara, Chris Antic, Oluwapelumi Dunmoye, Nathalie Marquez, Christopher Martinez, Can Carlo Palencia, Zeus Polanco, Alex Suazo and Zia Williams.

“Participating in UIL for the first time was a different but healthy experience for me,” said Williams. “Through band, I have gotten better at competing and now in Journalism, I have gotten better at grammar rules, spelling, and such. I am looking forward to next year and be able to accomplish better things.”
