CY SPRINGS “Are They Winning It All”

Boys basketball set for another dominating season

With the 2023-2024 regular football season wrapping up, many teams are working in order to prepare for the grueling upcoming basketball season, but the Cypress Springs Panthers are working  extra hard to make sure they are more than ready for an amazing season.

Last year they went all the way to the third round of playoffs fighting through teams like Tomball Memorial and Benjamin Davis, but sadly lost to Klein Oak, 52-51.

Stoney Hadnot, a senior and the leading scorer of the team last year said, “ This season will be a huge improvement from last year because of the work we put in all summer. I see us going even farther in the playoffs, might even win state.”

The Panthers work this summer is paying off as Daveon Johnson, a returning player from last year , is now a lights out shooter, knocking down shots from everywhere on the floor, and Josh Robinson the starting point guard is executing plays in a style that wows the crowd. The Panthers also picked up some new stars that will have a major impact on the team, Royal Mayfield, a 6 ‘3 guard who doesn’t just excel offensively but defensively too and Landon Veal, a 6 ’8 center from Cy Park who can block any shot that comes his way.

Players left their mark and sharpen their skills participating in the GASO preseason shootout posting wins over Clear Brook 80-39 and A&M Consolidated 84-47.  The Panthers then defeat Beaumont United 39-29 and edged out St Thomas Episcopal 43-41 in the Super 16.

The Panthers are determined to make sure everyone puts respect on their name. The team’s road back to the playoffs starts Nov. 11th with their season opener away against Fort Bend Travis.

“ This season we will prove to everybody that Cy Springs knows how to play basketball,” Head Coach Boykin said.

If you saw Cy Springs in practice, or weight room, you would know not to underestimate Cy Springs, because this season because they’re not coming to just play, they are coming to win.

Will the Panther come out victorious? Stay tuned to find out.
