The Panteras talents shined for the last time for this school year in their Spring Show , “Are we there yet?” held Friday April 21st.

The show included officer dances, group dances by old and new members as well as dances from competition season. Audience members were taken on a world wide trip  including stops in Greece, to Nashville to Hollywood and many places in between. The night featured a special performance with Panteras teaming up with family members and a few staff members in a dance to “Party in the USA.”  Between dances Panther orchestra members, the drum line as well as the cheerleaders entertained the crowd. There was also a kid dance off that brought a lot of smiles and cheering from the audience. Our school dance classes also joined in the fun with the Congo dance.

The night marked the end of their high school dancing career for seniors; captain Emily Schoth, Dorianna Roberts and Kyla Jones.

But what a year it has been for the Panteras from getting the crowd hype at football games and pep rallies to their award winning competitions.

This year the team the Panteras competed at the Northwest Houston Challenge Regional Competition and won multiple awards including the Pantera Kick company placing 1st for their Medium Ensemble and the Pantera Diamond Line receiving Runner Up. In team events, their success continued as they were awarded Judges Awards and 1st place : Pom, Modern and Novelty, Judges Choice Award for Team Pom as well as winning Grand Champion Large Team.

The Panteras have a long history of winning awards since the program began in 1997. Some of their wins include Grand Champion Team, Challenge Elite, Best in Class Team, Grand Champions in Showtime International, Grand Champion Classic Team in the Crowd Pleasers Dance.

This year’s Panteras are under the direction of Kelli Curran and Wendy Shair. The Panteras’ objective is to provide students with the opportunity to render service to the school and community, to foster good fellowship, to build school spirit and loyalty, to develop their given talents, and to encourage high morals as well as professional standards among team members. Panteras are the biggest spirit group here at Cy Springs. The program helps develop better community members and help prepares them for the future according to Shair.

Being a dancer is so much more than pom-poms and cute outfits. Dancing is a very demanding sport which requests training, effort and dedication. The Panteras are physically strong people with a lot of energy. They are confident to present themselves to large numbers of spectators all the time, they are disciplined to learn all the choreographies by heart and with precision, in an exhaustive routine of rehearsals, they are capable of accepting constructive criticism, and very open to learning new things.

Besides all the elements of dance the Panteras also participated in community events.
